Saturday Musings

This past week, there has been a lot of focus on corporate blogging, in particular at the executive level. Many execs seem to be afraid of getting their feet wet, which is illustrated by the fact that there is only one blogger in the entire Fortune 500 list. One problem that many face is figuring out what to talk about it. It’s hard not to sound like a corporate shill when you’re the president of the company.

If you are considering starting your own company blog, it’s important to lay down some topics for discussion ahead of time. This will help you stay focused and remove some of the anxiety over posting. It’s also a good idea to have a wide variety of subjects, that may not necessarily focus on your company, but rather on you as a person.

In addition to writing about commerce in all of its varied forms (which gives me plenty of wiggle room) I have a few other topics that are close to my heart (and which will most likely crop up here on a regular basis).

Consumer Electronics and Gadgets – I love techy stuff, especially when it helps me do my job easier. You’ll be seeing a lot of this stuff here on this blog, I can’t help myself.

Computers and Software – Again, this is another subject that is very near and dear. I am constantly on the lookout for software that will make it easier for company owners and employees to improve productivity, reach out to their customers better and yes, maybe even have a little fun.

Internet and Websites – As you may have noticed, I have a slight addiction to all things web 2.0 ☺ I think company owners need to stay on top of what’s going on with the latest applications and news, especially since there are so many new apps and companies out there that are really making waves.

In related news, blogging just got a whole lot more fun for many small business owners that are interested in monetizing their blogs. Check it out: http://www.payperpost.com This may encourage more would-be bloggers to give it a try and see what they can do.
