One Company's Mistake is Another's Cash Cow

Dell's recall of laptop batteries is really hitting Sony hard. Their stock has fallen, and this may really affect their profit margin this year. They have taken the honorable route and promised to make good on the batteries, though, which is admirable.

Their bad news though has worked in favor for two of the main competitors - Sanyo and Mitsubishi, both companies also produce laptop batterhttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifies. (Let's just hope theirs don't burst into flames.)

So, what can we learn from this?

1. Your competitors are just waiting for you to make a mistake - take the time to map out all of your business' plans before jumping.
2. Take natural advantage of market swings - if something like this happens to your competitor, don't be afraid to jump in.
3. It only takes one mistake to tank a company.
