Skyped

A fugitive CEO was recently captured in Sri Lanka after making a one minute phone call using his Skype number. Apparently, Skype does track user IP addresses, and it is believed that when the fugitive's billing info was verified, investigators were able to zoom in on his location.

Although this is a case that was definitely a plus for consumers, it underscores the fact that VoIP may not be as private as many people would like. Federal agencies are pushing to be able to monitor VoIP conversations and this case may move them further in that direction.
